Rare McCartney Christmas album resurfaces

A long-lost Christmas album Paul McCartney has been posted on YouTube more than 50 years after it was created. McCartney created the album Unforgettable in 1965 as a gift for his bandmates John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Only three additional copies were made in addition to McCartney's original, which he created in his home.

The album is set up like a radio show, featuring McCartney in the role of a DJ as he introduces a playlist of various songs from The Rolling Stones, Elvis, and Nat King Cole, who sings the title track. There is no new content on the album from The Beatles or McCartney. The existence of the album is known for a long time, McCartney mentioned it in several interviews over the years.
I had two Brenell tape recorders set up at home, on which I made experimental recordings and tape loops, like the ones in 'Tomorrow Never Knows,'" McCartney said. "And once I put together something crazy, something left-field, just for the other Beatles, a fun thing which they could play late in the evening. It was just something for the mates, basically.
Many believed that the four copies ever pressed, were lost in the mists of time. But in 2011, a vinyl bootleg with this material appeared. Apparently one tape which used to contain the album was taped over by John and Ringo, but 18:33 of the original 26 minute tape has been restored. It’s this bootleg that is posted now on YouTube.
